In Norse mythology Odin keeps two ravens: Huginn, thought, and Muninn, memory. Each dawn they are sent out across the world to gather what has happened, and each evening they return to his shoulders to report it.

He fears for both, and sends them anyway. Nothing reaches the high seat that a raven has not flown out and seen for itself.

This project is named for the first raven, the one that goes and looks. It surveys a live planet — aircraft transponders, ship beacons, orbital elements, seismographs and public cameras — and reports what is actually there. None of it is classified; all of it is already being broadcast. It keeps the second raven's habit as well: when a feed goes quiet, the last known state is retained and served with its age declared, rather than reporting an empty world.
